SUICIDEGIRLS.COM INTERVIEWS DIRECTOR SCOTT GLOSSERMAN!

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

By Daniel Robert Epstein
Mar 15, 2007
“Boy you people are going to like the new horror film Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. One part horror movie, one part mockumentary and two parts awesome. Director Scott Glosserman and his main star Nathan Baesel have taken the conventions of 70’s and 80’s slasher horror and taken it to a place that even Scream creator Kevin Williamson would fear to tread.”

CINESCARE INTERVIEWS DIRECTOR SCOTT GLOSSERMAN AND REVIEWS BEHIND THE MASK!

Thursday, March 15th, 2007

“Talking with Scott Glosserman is caffeine for the editor. He’s full of ideas, crackling with energy and passionate about horror cinema. If you’ve the pleasure of speaking with Glosserman in your lifetime, he’s the perfect model of the enthusiastic and appreciative genre director (not to pigeonhole the man, either, but that’s the mantle he carries at the moment). Horror is a strange business, and the personalities of the people connect with supporters in powerful ways. Glosserman is in good shape on that front.

It’s a pleasure to bring his work to the fore this week, as Hollywood unveils “Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon.” ”

OC WEEKLY FEATURES BTM STAR NATHAN BAESEL!

Thursday, October 19th, 2006

“…rarely has evil incarnate worn such a charming, likable face as that of Baesel’s Leslie Vernon. Whether the film, slated for limited release in early January, catches on with the mainstream or not, his performance is stunning. He manages to not only make a total psychotic believable, but he also makes him downright endearing. Whether he’s revealing tricks of the slasher trade (Grey’s Anatomy is a must-read manual) or glowing with pride at each small victory he thinks will lead to psycho canonization (spooking a young virgin, discovering an Ahab determined to thwart his perverse schemes), there is an infectious enthusiasm to Baesel’s portrayal that elevates Behind the Mask above self-reflective Scream or campy, tongue-in-cheek status.”

Monsters & Critics Recaps FrightFest, ‘06!

London Calling: Frightfest 2006

“‘Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon’ is brilliant. That’s all you need to know really because films like this do not come along very often. Focusing on a “wanna be” serial killer called Leslie Vernon and the documentary crew following him, the film cleverly deconstructs the whole slasher genre whilst remaining funny and even completely thrilling. If the term post-post-modern can ever be applied to anything then this film would be it.

Scott Glosserman shows great love and understanding of a genre that does not get enough injections of new blood everyday.”

BEHIND THE MASK MAKES CHUD.COM’S TOP TEN BEST FILMS OF THE YEAR LIST!!

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

“THE BEST… SO FAR

08.23.06
By Devin Faraci

I meant to run this piece about a month and change ago, when it was closer to the midpoint of the year. But you know what? I don’t mind running it now, because we’re a few weeks away from the beginning of the prestige season (let alone the release of The Prestige), and it’s all too possible that a couple of these films will fall off my Top list – not because they’re not good, but just because these lists get crowded. I’ve already seen about 200 films this year, and it would be easy to find 20 or so to put on a list.”

“Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (Review)
As I write this no one has picked up this movie yet, and I have to only say, ‘WTF?’ This one part mockumentary, one part slasher movie cocktail is like catnip for horror fans. Behind the Mask is a loving tweak at slasher conventions, not a ironically detached smugfest like Scream. You know the film is great because on the one hand it pokes fun at the conventions of the slasher film while on the other hand creating a masked killer who could easily take his own spot in the great pantheon.”
